53-Word Story Contest (10/25-10/30): No Winner
Dear readers and writers,
This week we have declared “no winner” in the 53-Word Story Contest with Meg Pokrass. Perhaps the prompt was too challenging or too restricting or too uninspiring, but none of the stories submitted quite measured up to our idea of a winning story. To maintain the integrity of this contest and the honor in being selected a winner, we feel that we must exercise an option of “no winner” when we can’t find that one story that wows us. As all writers know, not every story or poem you write is good enough for publication, and not every story or poem you write is worthy of a rewrite. Our hope is that this contest will be fun and rewarding. It’s difficult to write a 53-word story, and not every story you complete will work. But the experience, we believe, will make you a better writer and will benefit you later. In that spirit, we declare no winner this week, but we are looking forward to reading next week’s entries and declaring a winner.
